Director of Finance (Designate)

£50-65,000 basic + benefits

Our client, a marketing leading manufacturing & distribution business, is seeking a Director of Finance (Designate) due to the impending retirement of the current incumbent.

The successful candidate will initially be responsible for the management of an experienced accounts team, before assuming a senior management role across all aspects of the business at designate level with a view to assuming a full directorship within three years, reporting to the CEO.

Key duties will include:

Running monthly payroll calculation, preparation and submissions, including the payment to agents and commission payments

Maintaining the Company Asset Register and calculating Depreciation

The calculation, preparation and reporting of reports covering sales, margins and order intake with the ability to refer back to stock valuations, including the use of oncost principles for overhead absorption

Verification of calculations of customer rebates

Calculation of purchase reserves and goods in transit

Maintaining and reconciling a number of General Ledger control accounts that reflect approved accounting practice and the concept of matching expense with receipt, by way of accounting journal entries – for example, duties payable

Responsibility for foreign currency petty cash holdings

Responsibility for government statistical returns, VAT returns and checking of PAYE/NI liabilities generated from RTI transmissions

Timely preparation of Trial Balance, leading to periodic management accounts and a Balance Sheet

Reports to the Main Board and Executives distributed along the lines suggested by the CEO reporting mainly on sales, margins and profitability, with informed commentary on KPIs and POIs

Monitoring cash flows and forecasts

Controlling expenses from employees either on a reimbursement basis or via the Company Credit Card

Involvement with annual stock take in terms of valuations and count checks

Maintaining Holiday Pay records for all employees in conjunction with the OD

An understanding of the principles of International Finance (Letters of Credit etc) and foreign exchange management via forward contracts

Overview of Company Purchasing regime via Product Managers with particular emphasis on distributed brands, and the business relationship with key suppliers and agreed targets

Overview of Marketing expenditure generated by bespoke systems in conjunction with the Marketing Manager and CEO.

Preparation and monitoring of periodic budgets

Overview of Capital Expenditure

To apply:

Fully qualified Accountant with one of the major UK chartered bodies

Experience of heading up a finance and accounting department – strong people skills

Advanced skills in use of MS Office

Experience in use of SAP Business One and Brightpay Payroll or similar – string IT skills

Experience in drafting employment and business contracts – commercial skills

Experience dealing with outside agencies, including HMRC in all its guises – taxation law skills

An analytical mind.
