A manufacturing company near Birmingham is currently looking for an Environmental Health & Safety Advisor
The Role
Reporting directly to the Plant Manager you will be responsible for coaching and Mentoring senior management and employees on all aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental issues. You will offer hands-on guidance, instruction and practical solutions where required thus ensuring ownership of Health & Safety/Environmental matters at all levels.
Reducing the business risks to the company arising from breaches of health, safety and environmental legislation, by monitoring and implementing new and current legal requirements affecting the company
Your daily actives will be varied but will include:
  Planning safe working practices and making necessary changes through Risk assessments
  Investigating/recording incidents, accidents, complaints and cases of ill health and make recommendation as required
  Providing health and safety training courses for employees, team leaders and managers
  Assessing new equipment and machinery for safety, prior to installation and commission and ensuring that the said equipment is installed correctly/safely
  Writing internal EHS policies/strategies to ensure compliance to ISO14001 and BS OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety) as well as bulletins and newsletters.
  Keeping up to date with current Environmental health and safety legislation, Liaising with relevant authorities and acting as the official point of contact for official bodies such as the Health & Safety Executive and the Environment Agency
  Organising/attending health and safety meetings and publishing the resulting minutes
  Advising on, and ensuring the safe handling of hazardous substances on site
  Making regular site inspections and environmental audits
  Making presentations to groups of employees/managers.
  Review site security procedures with facilities manager.
   Work place transport safety arrangements.
   Organise safety audits, tours and inspections
  Carry out HS&E induction on all new employees
   Maintain the asbestos register, monitoring the condition of asbestos containing materials and sampling when necessary
The Individual
You will be educated with a NEBOSH and Environmental management certificate (a Diploma in both would be preferable, and membership of IOSH is desirable). You will have Knowledge / experience in ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 management system (possession of a Lead EHS Auditor qualification would be advantageous).
You will possess:
  A high standard of spoken & written communication skills including Microsoft Office packages.
  Sound and proven Stakeholder Management through patience and diplomacy
  The ability to understand and analyse complex information and present it simply and accurately;
  An investigative mind with a high attention to detail, combined with a hands on and practical approach with a sound knowledge of the law and applicable regulations
  A proficient Trainer in Inductions; Health & Safety basic training etc.
  A can-do attitude
The Terms
A salary of 26,000 - 27,000 is on offer to the right candidate
