Associate Editor - Print & Online Publishing

Our client, a publishing firm in Central Birmingham, requires an Associate Editor to oversee its editorial team and support the Senior Editor in producing print and online content for a leading monthly magazine and related products, which includes monthly reports and two quarterly e-magazines.
As Associate Editor you will be covering the international corporate finance market and other board-level business issues. You will be capable of writing news and feature articles analysing the latest trends and developments within the industry, and editing articles by staff writers. You will research and produce article outlines and develop interview questions to assist the sales team. You will also take an active role in the production of the magazine and its online content, including liaising with designers, sub-editing copy, proofreading, selecting pull-quotes, etc. You will be working to strict deadlines and adhering to predefined processes. You will be required to conduct interviews with leading corporate advisers (lawyers, accountants, consultants, etc.) from around the world.
You will have previous experience in a publishing environment, ideally working on a business-or finance-related title. You will need strong creative vision, the ability to produce first-class copy for print and excellent communication skills on and off the phone. You will need exceptional management skills to organise tasks and nurture the editorial team. You will need a strong desire to build your knowledge of the corporate finance market in a short space of time, through extensive research and reading.
You will have the determination, commitment, enthusiasm and ambition to further your career and take full responsibility for publications, dependent on competency. The right candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of other products and titles as a key member of the management team.
Specific responsibilities include:
Assist in the production of market-leading title under the direction of the Senior Editor
Contribute news & features and edit additional articles
Develop interview questions for leading professionals
Oversee the editorial team, managing their work and contributing to their development.
Assist with updating the website regularly, incorporating issues of the magazine, monthly reports, weekly reports and other content
Proven track record in publishing, with a strong portfolio of both news and features
Hands-on editing experience
Previous experience in working with an editorial team
Knowledge & enjoyment of business and finance issues a definite advantage
On offer is a starting basic salary of 22,000 (with excellent scope to improve)
